At Levenseat we recycle about 40% of all waste which we receive.

Levenseat Ltd has two sites in use for disposal of waste.

Text Box: Gas emissions from the landfill are harmful to the environment. Currently the gases are burnt to convert them into less harmful gases, but plans are in place to collect the gas from landfill and reuse it as an energy source to power the site and export it to the national grid. Text Box: Landfill is still widely recognised as the primary method for waste disposal for a wide range of waste types. From the outset the landfill at Levenseat has been fully contained and engineered in compliance with the 2004 Landfill Directive. It has a double basal liner comprising engineered clay plus HDPE. Treatment & Utilization

Levenseat follows a strict and extensive regime of monitoring the environment of its operations. This includes taking samples of groundwater from a total of 18 boreholes, sampling water from local burns and checking for landfill gas in the rock strata surrounding the landfills.

Text Box: Torphin is a landfill for inert material only and is situated in a disused limestone quarry. Remaining capacity is some 0.5M m3. Principal elements of inert material received at Torphin are soils, aggregate and demolition wastes. Read more...
